Flap!

Okay, I know I took a long, long time for me to get back to posting. Sorry 'bout that, but now I'm back full force!

This band will make you smile with it's upbeat forward moving tunes. Especially if you listen to there song "Tetris." Also, for making you smile, it doesn't hurt that they're from Australia...love that country.

Squirrel Nut Zippers + gypsy music + old timey cartoon soundtracks = Flap!

Young Coyotes

I love this band's transitions! Seriously, if you're a major indie fan then you'll love Young Coyotes. They have that airy-reverb vocal thing going on that's been heard through a lot of famous indie acts including The Shins and MGMT. Check out this band.

The Shins + Delta Spirit + The Arcade Fire = Young Coyotes

Blood Red Shoes

I was actually going to try to find a band that's a little bit light-hearted seeing that it's Easter...but I happened upon this band and had to change my mind. A bit on the heavy side, this band mixes together some dancy beats with some roughly distorted guitars. Check out the song "Say Something Say Anything" to see what they're all about.

Interpol + ...and you will know us by the trail of dead + Bloc Party = Blood Red Shoes

The Harlem James Gang

Okay, okay I know I missed Friday so I'm going to do a second band today...and as a matter of fact, every Saturday I'll post up two bands! This band could easily blow up with their ridiculously catchy tunes. I gotta say they are the next Outkast/Gnarls Barkley. Your body will have no choice but to shake your hips. Check out "Shut it Down" for a good idea.

Outkast + Cab Calloway + Duke Ellington = The Harlem James Gang

Dusty Brown

This band is going to want to make you sit back and feel cool. I can picture someone sitting in their car stuck in traffic and rolling down their window to let the bass ease the road rage away. It's a bit of alright. Check out the songs "How's That" to get a good idea of what they are.

Dido + The Postal Service + The Blood Brothers = Dusty Brown

AA Bondy

This man can have you tapping your toe to feeling hearts true discontent on a song to song basis. Seriously check out this band if you have any taste for cowboy-esque indie music. Listen to the track "There's a Reason," it sounds like it should be on a soundtrack to a movie and play in the background when the main character reflects over something that went awry.

Two Gallants + Ray LaMontagne + Iron & Wine = AA Bondy

Desaparecidos

So...you've heard of Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes right? Well, open your ears up to something a bit different from this mastermind. Although a bit darker with lyrics leaning mainly toward anti-government/establishment thoughts, Desaparecidos maintains Oberst's poetic stylings. You'll love this band if you want something a bit harder in your emotional - alternative - rock bands. Too bad they probably will never put out any new songs anytime soon. Oh well, take a listen to the treasures they have created.

Bright Eyes + Cursive + The Faint = Desaparecidos

Spiritualized

I might be stretching on the whole idea of "bands you might not know" but I think these guys are definitely worth a hear. Songs like "Ladies and Gentlemen...," "Hold on" and "Lay it Down" really will make you travel back in time to profound moments in your life. You can just sit back and let the music seep into your soul.

Sigur Ros + Spacemen 3 + a little bit of your soul = Spiritualized

William Elliot Whitmore

Someone out there needs to tell me how the hell this guy's voice got the way it did. It's kinda in the same realm as Tom Waits', y'know, super scratchy/raspy, but it's also it's own thing too. You will love this guy as soon as you hear him. He's not overly inventive with his material but his lyric/song writing ability is pretty top notch. You'll like him if you would like Tom Waits recording a bluegrass album.

farms + bluegrass instruments + one million packs of cigarettes = William Elliot Whitmore

Windmill

Okay this band I recently found a couple months ago and got hooked right away. The way this band mixes in the high falsetto-esque lead vocals with a sort of talking back-ups is pretty cool. The music is pretty great too! Kinda poppy but still managing to stay indie. Check out Tokyo Moon for their best effort.

Hellogoodbye + Mates of State + I'm from Barcelona = Windmill

JC Brooks and The Uptown Sound

Found out about this band because I work with the drummer. These guys are bringing back the Chicago Soul/Rock sound from the 60's and 70's. Check 'em out if you love this combo:

Al Green + Baby Huey and The Baby Sitters + The Stooges = JC Brooks and The Uptown Sound.

Delta Spirit

What can I say about this band? There's a passion driving each song. It seems as if this band needs to sing these lyrics to you. Don't believe me, listen to House Built for Two and People C'mon...great songs. Okay check 'em out, tell me what you think.

Bright Eyes + Cold War Kids + Clap Your Hands Say Yeah = Delta Spirit

Good Times, y'all

Rodrigo y Gabriela

Music lovers unite!

Okay, going for a change of pace here. Rodrigo y Gabriela started out in Mexico but ended up in Ireland to give us some great music. A Spanish flare with some heavy metal simmering under the surface makes this band something special. Check out the tune Tamacun for their best effort.

Sibling love + guitars + heavy metal undertones = Rodrigo y Gabriela

Yeah I know, not any other bands to compare by but I think this will help you out.

J Roddy Walston and the Business

More rocking out for you today boys and girls. The band is J Roddy Walston and the Business and do they ever mean business. JRW&tB formed in Baltimore when front man J Roddy moved from Chattanooga, Tennessee. The best thing about this band is that they know who they are. They know they just want to bring you the rock. It's like if Jack Black took himself a tad more serious and had three other guys that pounded on the instruments as well as he did. So yeah, here comes the comparison:

AC/DC + Mungo Jerry + Queen = J Roddy Walston and the Business

Check 'em out. You will love them.
